Job Description

Job Title: Agile PM/Scrum Master/Product Owner (Data Platform)

Location: Remote

Duration: 6-Month Contract

Must-haves :

Experience as a Scrum Master or Agile PM for a data engineering / analytics team : 2-week sprints, backlog grooming, story writing with acceptance criteria, and story-point estimation and velocity tracking.
Enough technical fluency in modern cloud data platforms to groom stories with engineers. That means understanding data ingestion, ETL/ELT pipelines, and data models well enough to break big asks into executable work. Databricks experience is strongly preferred. Familiarity with AWS, Azure, or Fabric is a plus but not required.
Experience delivering Power BI reporting : gathering report requirements, coordinating UAT, and resolving data definition conflicts across business functions (e.g., Sales vs. Finance revenue).
Proficient in Jira and Confluence for sprint tracking, backlog management, and documentation.
Has worked with a distributed team across multiple time zones (CA, Midwest, Brazil, India). Comfortable starting early PST.
Owns the product side: separates what stakeholders say they need from what they actually need, challenges requests, and is comfortable telling users "we can't do that."

SCOPE:

Scrum Master (core of the role)

Run sprints, standups, planning, and retros
Groom the backlog with engineers: break big stakeholder asks into executable user stories
Standardize story-point estimation (currently inconsistent)
Keep the distributed team aligned and remove blockers

Product Owner (no dedicated PO)

Own and prioritize the backlog: decide what goes into each sprint
Own stakeholder intake: translate new requests into backlog items
Figure out what users need vs. what they ask for
Align conflicting definitions (e.g., Sales vs. Finance revenue)
Comfortable telling users "we can't do that"

Project Manager (~30%)

Lead the steering committee
Bring backlog priorities and competing requests to steerco for decisions
